IDESDI V. 1.01

This is a real-mode DOS (not Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or GUI-mode Windows 9x or OS/2) program to sniff out the drives attached to the PRIMARY disk controller. This means that Xtype controllers on port 032xH and AT, IDE or ESDI controllers on port 01fxH are supported. SCSI drives and oddball or custom controllers are not supported.

If the program detects and AT or XT controller for MFM or RLL drives, it attempts (usually successfully) to determine the drive geometry by usinga binary search on the number of cylinders, heads and sectors per track. It does not care what the system BIOS settings are.

If the program detects an IDE drive or ESDI controller, it uses the IDENTIFY command to determine drive characterstics. It also attempts to set 8-bit transfer mode to see if a drive can perform 8 bit (XTA-style) data transfers.

This utility does not write to the drive.
