Just to give you an idea of what our service prices look like, see below:
Reading a known or common disk format: $5.00/disk. This process includes reading the disk and copying the files to the internet so you can access the data yourself. We’ll also give you the files in a disk image format that can be used with emulation. Common disk formats are IBM-PC, Apple, Macintosh, Commodore, Atari and any other popular computer from the 80’s and 90’s.
Reading an unknown disk format: $10.00/disk. If you’re not sure what system the disks came from but just want to get the data off of them, we charge a bit more. It takes some time to figure out that the 8″ floppy disk you gave us came from a Heathkit computer from 1978.
File Conversions: $3.00/file. If you need the files converted so you can read the files in Word or other more modern format, we can do this on a per file basis. Just realize that many files can’t be converted, but we’ll do our darndest.
Disk Creation: $10.00/disk. If you are in need of a system disk or boot disk, we can create the disks for you. Many disk images are available online, so just send us a link to the disk image file and we’ll recreate it for you. Unfortunately, 8″ disks are $10.00 extra.
Shipping and Handling: The customer is responsible for the cost of shipping to and from Floppy Archaeology. I generally use media mail USPS, which is $5.00/lb domestically.
USB or Thumb Drive: The customer shall provide the USB or storage device they would like to copy the files to. This will then be shipped back with the disks.
File Download: Floppy Archaeology will provide a link to download the files from floppyarchaeology.com free of charge.
Advice: Free. Send us an email or give us a call. We’ll give you our 2 cents – absolutely free!
